Intro

This site showcases the work of John and Kathryn Atwood, a husband/wife duo who have merged their love for history and American music into their entertaining "History Singers" programs. The idea for all of this started with a question: "before the introduction of electronics, how did Americans encounter music?" Our first attempted answer, "The Settings of American Song" program, debuted in 2003. Since that time, the presentations that we now offer and our corresponding repertoire (which covers everything from Old American folk songs to Cindy Lauper) has expanded significantly. Check out our program descriptions (which include feedback from former hosts), listen to our soundbites, or take a look at Kathryn's related book reviews. We're glad you stopped by.

Where do we perform?

Our basic programs are a combination of lecture and musical performance which makes them a perfect fit for libraries, historical societies and community groups. However, we also perform selections from our large repertoire without the accompanying lecture and now play occasionally at several local coffeehouses. We also perform in-home concerts on a donations basis.
